Community Development

GARIU promotes the development of by collaborating with villagers on their projects or leading projects that are needed to grow the sense of positive identity among villagers as it pertains to their living environments.

  • The Seine Bight Village Council:

  • GARIU makes financial contribution to the Seine Bight Village council Seine Bight Day celebration.  This is an annual event that showcases the village and its people in a positive way, for the purpose of community building, marketing and capitalizing on the tourism industry.

  • Teacher training for village school:

  • Many teachers have lost their license because of inability to acquire the teacher training credits that are required to maintain their license.  Some of the reasons include, inability to pay for training, inability to travel to places where the trainings are being offered.  To alleviate this pressure on teachers, GARIU collaborates with school principals and offer free teacher training workshops that not only equip teachers with needed teaching skills but also allows them to receive CPD hours from the Belize Ministry of Education.  GARUI is a registered training provider on the Belize Ministry of Education Teacher Learning Platform. We believe that a strong teaching pool empowers to be able to more efficiently contribute to the development of the communities in which they serve.

Providing Internet to village schools:

In 2018, the schools in Seine bight and Georgetown did not have access to internet.  GARIU funded the wiring and provided internet to the entire school in 2020 and updated it in 2022.  We also did the same in Georgetown Village
