SARC Literacy Program
Launched in 2022 at the principal’s request, this program involved bringing in experts and purchasing the A to Z learning platform to support teacher education and improve literacy at SARC. Despite initial efforts, the program stalled due to a lack of resources and support.
SARC Community Literacy Initiative
To revive the stalled SARC Literacy Program, GARIU is partnering with the SARC Community Literacy Working Group convened by Journalist and Community Activist, Yaya Marin Coleman, on 8 August 2024.
The initiative aims to strengthen the current program by introducing a Literacy Curriculum in partnership with literacy experts from Peninsula International Academy and other professionals, with a focus on improving reading levels and overall literacy at SARC.

Urgent Needs
Currently, we are in urgent need of funding support for the SARC Community Literacy Program.
Given the urgency of the situation and the dedication of our experts to initiate the intervention at SARC, below is a streamlined budget that has been significantly reduced. This reduction reflects the experts’ commitment to the program and their willingness to ensure that costs do not hinder its implementation:
Coordinator for Literacy Improvement: $800 x 9 = $7,200.00
Assessment Team (5 members): $520.00
Food: 12 x 10 = $120.00
Transportation: 40 x 10 = $400.00
Printed Resources for Assessment: $350 x 2 = $700.00
Paper and Other Supplies: 6 boxes @ $200 = $1,800.00
Printer: $2,500.00
Laptops/Tablets: 45 x $350 = $15,770.00
Headphones: 72×10 = $760.00
Reading Program A to Z/Ras Plus: $746.00
Teacher Visits to PIA: 40 + 12 x 13 = $1,352.00
Grand Total: $31,348.00
